Linda Frylink Anderson I

artist, author, scribbler, wife, mother, teacher and world sailor.

Linda began her art voyage at the Canberra School of Art when leaving school studying for a Diploma in Visual Communication. Soon she was lured by the love of of her life to travel the world. She always carried a sketch book to scribble her thoughts and visions. After many adventures and several decades of teaching in Early Childhood as well as busy with rearing her own children she finally let go the shackles of jobs and mortgages to travel the world once more.

Linda set sail to circumnavigate the world with Bill aka ‘Captain Underpants’ aboard a boat built in their backyard. Armed with her satellite phone and laptop, Linda could write her blog anywhere in the world. Enjoying her tales, readers of Linda’s blog encouraged her to write a book. Linda published her first memoir ‘Sailing in my Sarong, Around the World – a 30-year dream’ colourfully illustrated with her original art and photography. This was followed by her second colourfully illustrated book ‘Salvage in my Sarong – the Mediterranean Dream in a rescued boat’

Linda was invited to present at International Writers Festivals in Byron Bay and Ubud, Bali, The International Boat Show in Sydney and at the Women Who Sail Australia Gathering.

Linda draws and paints from life capturing the moment as she sees it. Travelling provided rich inspiration for her art making. Since 2015, she has settled in northern NSW painting, creating pique assiette mosaics, running Life Drawing sessions and mosaic workshops in Iluka. She is part of a community art space Iluka Emporium where she has a permanent exhibition of her work. The surrounding rich land and seascapes continue to provide inspiration for her work.

“My work is a an immediate response to what I see. I love to scribble, play with line and colour. The world is my studio – I draw and paint on board our boat, on the beach, in the bush, from a cafe and from live models. My home studio allows me to engage in larger works on canvas of the bushland, beaches, forests and waterways and people.”

Art Exhibitions include galleries in South East Queensland, Northern NSW, Mauritius, US Virgin Islands and New York. Her art and writing go hand in hand and you will often see her at Author talks with artwork on display alongside her books..

Recently Linda has been creating pique assiette mosaics using recycled materials such as china, old jewellery, glass, mirrors and interesting collectibles. Each piece tells a story – She often use memories from her travels around the world recreating the colours and textures. She enjoys searching for unique collectibles and spends many hours in her studio surrounded by nature she works, It’s almost a kind of meditation for me.”
