Clarence Impressions – my Iluka Mermaid

Taking inspiration from the famed ‘9 by 5 Impression Exhibition’ held in Melbourne in 1889, Clarence Impressionsbrings artists from the Northern Rivers together with their depictions and interpretations of the Clarence Valley.

Through public call-out, artists were invited to respond to this theme, and the result is a vibrant and expressive exhibition that reflects the region’s stunning landscapes, people, and places.

This exhibition will be on show from 1 March – 27 April 2025.

A GRG community exhibition.

I chose to paint the Iluka Mermaid, adding tiny jewels and beads to her tail. )The actual statue in Iluka has a mosaic tail) I also framed her with a chain around the edge. It was a challenge for me to paint so small!
